Albert Haynesworth Quickly Becoming Human Punchline
August 7th 2010 02:56
What are the chances of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl this year? About as good as Albert Haynesworth passing the team conditioning test! (ZING!!!!)
"When Albert Haynesworth passes the conditioning test" is quickly replacing the phrase "When hell freezes over", and as an Eagles fan, I can only smile every morning that I read about Haynesworth failing yet again. When he is not failing it, he is skipping it for "soreness" in his knee. Riiiight! Redskins coach, Mike Shanahan, has told Haynesworth that he is not allowed to practice with the team until he passes the mandatory conditioning test and right now, that is not looking like it is going to happen any time soon.
He was once a dominating force to be reckoned with on the defensive line for Tennessee, and now, he is just an anchor weighing his team down. I'm so glad to see the Redskins continue to pay a guy, who now wants to be traded because he does not like the defense, guaranteed money to disrupt a team that is seemingly headed in a positive direction.
The Redskins really do have a chance to get back in the mix this year with the hiring of a proven winner like Mike Shanahan and with the acquisition of Donovan McNabb. Although I am not sold on the notion that McNabb and Shanahan are ready to lead this team back to greatness for this season, I really believe the Redskins have found a good path to be heading down for their future.
Haynesworth still has the potential to be one of the most dominant D-linemen in the NFL, but it seems that once he scored his big contract, (41 Million in guaranteed money) Big Al packed it in. One has to wonder what Shanahan will do if Haynesworth never does pass that conditioning test. Does he bench a guy making that much in guaranteed money or does he attempt to trade him? Trading a guy making that much money and producing so little may not be an easy task and you can bet that owner Daniel Snyder will not be happy to see Haynesworth on the bench counting his money. On the flip side, Shanahan risks losing the respect of his players if he allows Haynesworth to step on the field without having passed the test.
The Redskins got themselves into this mess by signing him to this albatross of a contract and in my opinion they are going to have to bite the bullet and bench him if he does not pass.
Oh well, it is not the Eagles' problem, thus it is not a major concern of mine. I just enjoy when a division rival has to deal with a bone head like this. Hey, I doubt Redskins fans were feeling any pity towards Eagles fans when TO was doing sit-ups on his front lawn after being suspended by the team!
By the way, what is the most popular cartoon being shown at Redskins training camp? Fat Albert! (Rimshot!)
Yeah yeah, they're meant to be bad jokes!!!!
UPDATE: Haynesworth passed the conditioning test this morning. I guess 3 times really is a charm! What a buzz kill!
